AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE TOWN OF TAYLORSVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF SUCH TOWN; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE PAID TO SMITH COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The governing authorities of the Town of Taylorsville, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on the minutes of the governing authorities, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case, for each misdemeanor case processed through the municipal court of the Town of Taylorsville.
(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the Town of Taylorsville to Smith County Crimestoppers for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Smith County, Mississippi.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
